The Nigerian Institution of Metallurgical,Mining and Material Engineers Visit CUSTECH, Osara .
The Nigerian Institution of Metallurgical, Mining and Material Engineers, a Division of the Nigerian Society of Engineers yesterday paid a courtesy visit to CUSTECH, Osara.
The team of Engineers who was warmly welcomed by the Vice Chancellor of CUSTECH, Engr. Prof. Abdulrahman Asipita Salawu and the University management, appreciated them for the sacrifice made to visit CUSTECH, Osara after their 3M International Conference held in Lokoja, Kogi State.
The Vice Chancellor, who is the National Chairman of the Institution commended the State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo for creating a conducive environment for the university to thrive, for which reason the university is rated as one of the fastest growing universities, attracting several awards from far and wide. In his words, the university is “riding on the shoulder of giants”. He also commended the Governor of the state for ensuring a tight security measure for the university through the construction of perimeter fencing,and engagement of more security hands to protect both staff and students.
While calling on the the Institution to avail the university of their expert knowledge in some of the university programmes, the Vice Chancellor encouraged the team of Engineers to invest in Kogi State which has abundant, untapped mineral resources.
In his response, The Vice Chairman of the Institution, Engr. Michael Orekyeh sought collaboration with the university in respect of Academics, Researchers,and Research Development Projects needing expertise in Metallurgy, Mining and Materials engineering.
In his remarks, Engr. Abraham Aghadike, FNSE, representing the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers,Engr. Margaret Oguntala, FNSE appreciated the Vice Chancellor and members of the management for the warm reception. He commended CUSTECH Staff on the cooperation, collaboration and synergy exhibited during the visit which he credited to the perfect administration of Engr. Prof. Abdulrahman Asipita Salawu. He described the the Vice Chancellor as a servant leader, who is involved in getting the job done.
He charged the Vice Chancellor to ensure that the engineering students are not only taught practicals with the facilities available, but to encourage engineering entrepreneur, by which his name will be written in gold in the society.
The visit ended with an award presented to the Vice Chancellor by the Institution. Present at the event were the Management Staff, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and various Heads of Department of Engineering programmes. The event gallery is captured below:
