BIOGRAPHY
Eng. Prof. Abdulrahman Asipita Salawu was born 55 years ago precisely on the 29th of January 1969 into the family of Mal. Salawu in Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi State. Like every other child in the family, Prof. Asipita began his academic sojourn in 1977 at the Local School Management Board primary school in Ikaraworo, Adavi Local Government, Kogi State, and obtained a school leaving certificate in 1983. He had his secondary school education at Community Secondary School (CSS), Ogaminana, Adavi, Kogi State, from 1983 – 1988. He went to attended Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, from 1991 – 1997, where he obtained a BEng in Metallurgical Engineering.

As Providence will have it, he was employed as a Research Metallurgical Engineer at the National Metallurgical Development Center, Jos, Plateau State, in 1999 before transferring his service to the Federal University of Technology, Yola, as a Lecturer II from 2005 – 2007. Because of his love for academic progression, he obtained a Master of Engineering (MEng) from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, in 2006, after which he joined the service of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Department of Mechanical Engineering in 2007.

In his pursuit of academic excellence, Prof. Asipita proceeded to his Doctorate degree in Engineering from Universiti Technologi Malaysia where he obtained a Phd in Engineering in the year 2012. He has won many awards, to mention a few, the Pro-chancellor’s best graduate award School of Postgraduate Studies, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, in 2013, the Award for Excellent Journal Publication, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, in 2012. 

He has served in various capacities, such as Head of Department, Department of Metallurgical Engineering.  Federal University of Technology, Minna; Member of the Governing Council, Federal University of Technology, Minna; and two-time Branch Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) in Yola and Minna, and Chairman of many committees, to mention a few.

Prof. Asipita had many research publications to his credit. As a lecturer, he taught any undergraduate and Postgraduate courses, supervised many students, and researched extensively. Prof. Asipita as fondly called rose quickly through the ranks to the Chair of Professor of Metallurgical Engineering on 1st October 2019 as a testament to his profile and scholarly peer-reviewed publications in National and International Reputable Journals. 

As the Vice-Chancellor of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH) Osara, Kogi State, Prof. Asipita despite his busy schedule still remains in active research for development with many publications.

In the illustrious tapestry of academia, there shines a beacon of brilliance, a leader whose profound dedication and unwavering commitment to excellence have left an indelible mark on the landscape of academia. Prof. Asipita, an esteemed professor of Metallurgical Engineering, and in recognition of his outstanding contributions to his professional field and exemplary leadership now stands adorned with an additional mantle of responsibility, the current Chairman of Nigeria Institution of Metallurgical, Mining and Materials Engineering (NIMMME). The University Don is happily married with children.
