CUSTECH Vice Chancellor Pledges to Uphold Engr. Dr. Makoju’s Legacy at 3rd Memorial Lecture

The Vice Chancellor of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, Engr. Prof. Asipita Salawu, FNSE, has reaffirmed his commitment to nurturing the next generation of engineers and leaders who will carry forward the legacy of the late Engr. Dr. Joseph Oyeyani Makoju.

Prof. Salawu made this declaration during the 3rd Memorial Lecture in honor of the late Engr. Dr. Joseph and Enesi Makoju, held at the Joseph and Enesi Oyeyani Memorial Lecture Theatre, Felele Campus, Federal University Lokoja. The lecture, themed “Joseph Oyeyani Makoju: Archetype of Adaptive Energy Transition and Cement Manufacturing,” celebrated the impactful life and contributions of the renowned engineer.

In his address, the Vice Chancellor extolled the leadership qualities of the late Engr. Makoju, describing him as a visionary who revolutionized Nigeria’s energy and cement sectors. He highlighted Makoju’s remarkable achievements, innovations, and commitment to sustainability, stating, “He was a true archetype of adaptive leadership, whose contributions remain a benchmark in engineering and industrial development.”

Prof. Salawu also advocated for sustainable practices in cement manufacturing, citing initiatives implemented by the late Engr. Makoju during his tenure at Dangote Cement Factory. He emphasized the need for the industry to adopt eco-friendly measures to mitigate environmental impact.

In a remark,the matriarch of the Makoju family, Dr. Gladys Adesuwa Makoju, expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor for his detailed tribute to her late husband in a well researched presentation. She pledged to sustain the legacies of both her husband and son, promising continued support for initiatives that uphold their values.

The event was attended by members of the CUSTECH management team,members of the academia, industry stakeholders and students.
